Ride on.

Stage 8

London calling to the faraway towns; Now war is declared and battle come down.
London calling to the underworld; Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls.

Yes the final stage of season 2 was a TTT in London – no better way to end what has been an epic, brilliant and brutal season 2 of the WTRL‘s Zwift Racing League. Some of us had heavy legs after the skiing holidays but we all gave our best and we all had a lot of fun even though we all pushed to the limit. London is a funny course as it’s longer than you think. 30km of fairly flat roads but with a few little kicks sometimes enough to make a good standing effort and break the rhythm. So how did we do ?

Team A

Thierry, Bruno, Stu, George, Nic, Alistair

Ranking : 11th / 16

League : 15th / 16

I’m really proud of team A because it’s been a very tough season. We got promoted to A2 this season and found ourselves in a super tough league but the guys kept on showing up and gave their best. It resulted tonight in a very polished TTT performance. We really have fun in those TTT and our team spirit really shows as we manage to get good performances and compete with very strong team. So proud, well done guys!

Team C

Olivier, Nick, Alec, Marc

Ranking : 7th / 10

League : 7th / 10

With only 4 riders in a TTT this was always going to be a struggle but the team performed really well and I’m delighted to see the team worked well together and as I always say we are always as strong as our 4th rider. Great job from everyone. This team has had very solid overall performances, especially in the TTT but also at GC level – are you ready for the B league next season !?!? Yes !!!

Next Season

Yes, season 2 is over… so much fun ! A few weeks break and we kick off again on April 6th I believe. In the mean time, enjoy the break, rest a little bit and we’ll be back stronger !

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who participated in the Zwift Racing League for Jura Sports – my aim was to :

  • build a community √
  • have fun √
  • push the boundaries √

Friends were made; we all had a great time; and we gave our best – SUCCESS !

THANK YOU !

Stage 7

With the holiday season in Switzerland I was scared of not being able to fill out a full team, but thanks to our brilliant Zwift and Jura Sports community we got enough riders to compete in Stage 7 in Richmon, Virginia on the Libby Hill After Party course. The course is mainly flat – with 5 sprints along the way which were going to string out the peloton – and a final climb up Libby Hill, a short but punchy climb. This stage was made for the sprinters.

Team A

Tom, Bruno, Jamie, Alistair, Patrick

Ranking : 15th / 16

League : 15th / 16

For his first stage Tom had a brilliant ride with a valiant effort to stay almost until the end – I was watching him ride at 4.5 w/kg on the flat and couldn’t believe the level at which this race was ridden. Bruno found a good second pack and managed to even close in on Tom so we got some decent points today but it was always going to be a struggle today. We are 15th in the league, just ahead of our Welsh friends who we are likely going to go down with in A4 where we really belong…

Team C

Olivier, Nick, Arturo, Jed

Ranking : 10th / 10

League : 8th / 10

Tough day at the office! Olivier was doing great until the final lap – he even managed some FAL points but the last sprint took too much out of him and he got dropped and even passed. We had a good chance for top 10 finish and missed by a fraction. With no other bonus points and only 4 riders we were always going to struggle… so unfortunately we are in last spot this week.

Next Stage

Next week we travel to London for the final race of the season, a TTT which we all enjoy ! Team C has a real chance of getting some points back – we’re only 5 points behind 4th place – we can make it back ! For team A it will be all about beating the Welsh and give our best and have fun !

Stage 6

Probably the hardest stage of season 6 with 3 climbs up the volcano – this was going to be epic – and it was ! 41.5km of hellish riding – very typical now for a Tuesday night !

Team A

Stu 47, Bruno 62, Thierry (captain) 64, George 73, Alistair 78

Ranking : 14th / 16

League : 15th / 16

Again very solid performance by Stu who is really our start rider this season. Consistently in the top 50 he again performed really well. Myself and Bruno hung on for dear life to finish a few minutes back as the pace up the first climb was simply too hard. First timer George exploded but his Ironman training is a little different from Zwift racing ! And excellent job by Alistair who fought really hard and gave a very strong performance with an FTP bump as bonus !

Team C

Julian 9, Olivier 13, Alec (captain) 14, Marc 42, Arturo 43, Peter 46

Ranking : 5th / 10

League : 5th / 10

Very strong performance overall including three top 15 finish ! The team is really coming alive and climbing up the rankings at the end of the season, this is brilliant ! Very strong performances by the boys  – unfortunately for us the climb wasn’t steep enough so the heavier riders still could muscle their way up. Special mention to Julian who got 9th overall, but also 9th “first across the line” at the top of the Volcano on the second climb. We are proving to be a solid team in this league !

Next Stage

Next week we travel to Richmond – a flat stage with a punchy finish !

Stage 5

The Big Apple… Why was NY’s Mighty Metropolitan choses as a TTT event… I was cursing it the moment I saw it, but oh how I weirdly enjoyed it during the event ! The organisers proved us wrong. A team time trial CAN be interesting when you throw a big climb in the middle. With only 20km this was going to be a very fast and furious TTT with all riders needing to go hard on the climb and the several lumps in Hyde Park.

Team A

Thierry (captain), Bruno, Stu, Jamie, Nic, Patrick

Ranking : 14th / 16

League : 15th / 16

Strong performance overall and we just missed a little “umph” to pass another team in the ranking but I’m really happy with our performance. We were super strong until the climb then we lost Nic and Patrick so it was going to be very hard with only 4 riders to maintain the pace we had set. We overtook the Welsh but then they overtook us again which put us off our rhythm and probably cost us 1 place in the ranking… oh well ! When hearing the discord channel I could tell we were all giving our best efforts !

Team C

Alec (cap.), Olivier, Julian, Nick, Arturo, Marc

Ranking : 2nd / 9

League : 6th / 10

WOW our first podium finish ! What a strong performance from C team, chapeau boys. This course suited us as we have the “lightest” team in the league – we lost Marc and Arturo on the main climb but this was expected and they worked hard in the first 8km – brilliant team effort ! The usual quartet brought the 2nd place home in a super strong fashion, really proud of the whole team !

Next Stage

We go to Watopia on the Whole Lotta Lava course with 3 times up the Volcano KOM ! This will give climbers an opportunity to shine. Team A will be hanging on for dear life (as usual!) but team C has a real opportunity to do well, and perhaps even go one step higher on the leaderboard? Dare I mention a W ???

Ride on.

Stage 4

Fact : there is not one single bit of road that is flat in Yorkshire. Don’t believe me? Ask the Jura Sports teams who raced in the epic Zwift Racing League stage 4. This was fast and furious. Athletes with strong V02 would do well as the hilly parts were quite long but nice recovery on way down. The KOM split the groups of course – I am amazed at the level in both A and C categories. WOW !

Team A

Stu 48th, Thierry (captain) 49th, Bruno 70th, Jamie 83rd, Alistair 86th

Ranking : 15th / 16

League : 15th / 16

Thanks to Stu I managed to stay in a small group – I had to dig very deep not to get dropped – we managed to pick a few riders along the way, and both Stu and I managed to win the sprint of our small group – well done !

Team C

Olivier 12th, Julian 16th, Alec (captain) 24th, Nick 35th, Peter 44th, Marc 52nd

Ranking : 7th / 10

League : 7th / 10

Very strong performance overall including two top 20 finish ! Unfortunately we are not scoring high enough on the FAL and FTS… must rethink my strategy !

Next Stage

Next week we travel to New York for a TTT – can’t wait !

Stage 3

Innsbruck – one of my favourite course on Zwift (most of them are my favourites actually, expect NY..) and the KOM after party course promised to be a hell of a race with 3 laps of Innsbruckring and the final ascent of the 7.5km climb. The start of the A was easier than usual – but it kicked in big time on the first leg snapper and that is where most of us got split. Only Stu managed to keep in the front group , had a solid climb and finished in a fantastic 40th place. On the C league the race was fierce – fantastic effort by Olivier to stay at the front for the 3 laps, getting 8th in the FAL 3rd sprint. Very good efforts by Nick and Julian who played the GC card very well.

We’re all feeling the burn today – it was a super tough race but as always, a lot of fun !

Team A

Thierry (captain), Bruno, Nic, Stu A., Jamie, Stuart K.,

Ranking : 16th / 16

Team C

Alec (captain), Julian, Nick, Marc, Olivier

Ranking : 7th / 10

Stage 2

The TTT is one of my favorite formats of racing on Zwift. It’s extremely challenging, not only because you push yourself very hard, but because you have to focus a lot to keep in a straight line and benefit from the draft of your team mates. Some teams will have lower power but faster times, why? They are efficient and stream line the course perfectly. Practice makes perfect !

Team A

Thierry (captain), Bruno, Nic, Stu, Jamie, Phil

Time : 34min44sec

Ranking : 13th / 15

Solid performance overall and very happy with today’s result. Yes we are only 13th but the teams were pretty close up ahead. We lost Phil on the KOM whilst overtaking another team so reduced to 5 was going to be harder and our coordination at the end wasn’t as smooth.

Team C

Alec (captain), Julian, Nick, Marc, Arturo, Olivier

Time : 39min02sec

Ranking : 7th / 10

If you want to talk about bad luck ask Olivier… right at the start he had a “Zwift error” message so he couldn’t start so the team already lost 1 rider from get go, and Olivier was supposed to take turns at the front… So it was up to Alec and Julian to lead the team and they did a brilliant effort. Great performance by Marc and Arturo to have kept going until the end and this team event shows that you can push much much harder than you think ! The team pushed hard but lots could have been gained with more efficient line – something to work on and we look forward to the next TTT !

Stage 1

Richmond, ah Richmond ! My favourite course on Zwift so what a fitting way to start season 2 of the Zwift Racing League.

Team A

Bruno 57th, Thierry (cap.) 70th, Jamie 74th, Stu 86th, Robert 88th, Patrick 89th

Overall team ranking : 15th / 17

WOW the level is high… We really got a cycling lesson today and for sure it will be a struggle on all the scratch events ! Solid performance by Bruno who was in the lead group until half way. The first small KOM really separated the groups and we have to pay more attention to the difficulties in the first 2-3km as this is where the rankings are mostly decided !

Team C

Alec (cap.) 11th, Julian 18th, Olivier 24th, Nick 27th, Peter 43rd, Marc 44th

Ranking : 7th / 10

What a start for our team C with 2 riders in the top 20, fantastic effort by everyone. On the general ranking we did very well but unfortunately we didn’t focus on the KOMs and sprints and that is where the race was won, next time ! Kudos to Nick who managed to get bonus points on a sprint, solid. A very competitive league but we are right in the mix !
